The Square Foot Gardener Broadfork was inspired by Eliot Coleman’s 30” bed size. This broadfork is sized to be a perfect fit for single pass tilling in your beds.

Although the width of the step tube is 24” the handles are still mounted at our standard 20” width for comfortable broadforking.  The Square Foot Gardener Broadfork tines cultivate a true 12" deep into the soil.

 Strengths of this model include:

  • Ideal balance of lightweight and larger size
  • Smooth tilling with 6 tines
  • Wider footprint = less passes and lifts of the broadfork
  • Prepping and turning over beds
  • Soil aeration
  • Harvesting crops
  • Great for use in cultivated soil or already established beds

Technical Specs:

  • Width: 24" wide round step tube
  • Tines: 6 tines at a true 12" length from the step tube
  • Weight: 14 lbs with wood handles, 17 lbs with steel handles

 -----------------------------------------

Choose your desired handle style from our ash wood, alloy steel or the deluxe combo set to use both styles interchangeably in your Treadlite Broadfork.

HANDLE RECOMMENDATION: The steel handles are preferred with The Square Foot Gardener Broadfork due to greater leverage in the soil with the wide footprint of the broadfork. The steel handles will provide superior strength in all soil types and for all uses from breaking new ground to cultivation and harvest.

*If you prefer the ash wood handles for a lighter tool, they will preform well with care.

I have a new high tunnel and my wife bought the broadfork for me for Christmas. Ive been using it to do some winter planting and to practice preparing my beds for spring. I look forward to spring. Its easy to use and makes building the beds very quick. I'm looking forward to better soil this year.

As a new master gardener I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of these broadforks. They keep the soil ecosystem intact and loosen without disrupting layers. They are super sturdy and easy to assemble. They are definitely a workout! 10/10

Just got it and have already put it through some difficult tests. It easily handled all I put it through. This broadfork is well designed and made. Glad it has the round tube instead of square you were right. Also glad I went with steel handles. I like quality and am pleased with my Treadlite

Customer photo review of The Square Foot Gardener Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

It took a while to receive it as they “are a small company and were producing [the model we ordered]” at that moment. That’s understandable and I’m happy they’re having such a good response to their product. That’s said, my wife ABSOLUTELY loves it in the garden!!! It gets deep under the soil and disrupts the packed ground without displacing the layers. You can tell, immediately, that the roots of plants will have lots of room to spread out and find good growth paths. It made quick work of several rows and she’s really looking forward to using it for a long time. It’s very well made. Wood handles are smooth and strong. Wish I’d have splurged for the metal handles though. I can just imagine that those are indestructible. It will be easy enough to upgrade when these wear out, which I figure will be multiple years down the road. All in all, we’re very impressed and happy with the quality and effectiveness of this. WeMd highly recommend it.

The whole family has been loving using this tool to dig up our lawn for planting food, flowers and herbs. Even the Neighbor kids came over and the brothers were fighting over who got to use it. It’s a solid tool that will likely get passed on to future generations! Thank you so much

Farming is hard work, especially when you have clay soil. However, the broadfork gets deep enough to loosen the soil up and allow our composts to mix in. Goes deeper than our rototiller. Yes, it takes longer, but the results are superior. Wish we had this tool years ago.

This is my first broad fork, after admiring them and learning about them from regenerative gardeners online. And I love it. Works just as I expected, and fits perfectly in my garden beds.

Customer video review of The Square Foot Gardener Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

I garden at my church Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Newark, NJ which has heavy clay soil that has been compacted by decades to tillage. My treadlite broadfork sunk deep into the clay so I could lift it and aerate it. It was worth investing in treadlite.

I rarely endorse or offer positive reviews of stuff. That said the Treadlight Broadfork is a BRILLIANT tool! High quality steel fully welded, powder coated, and very well thought out. The function beats the tiller and it’s actually far easier. In my simple beds made from 2X8X8s I toss in 4-6 inches of good “soil” and below that is hardpack. Even if I tilled first, the best I’m getting is 3” down with 6” tines. This “tills” 12” with nothing but my fat ass and leverage. If you make multiple passes you’re loosening, aerating, mixing, soil deeper each time. Can’t do that with a tiller or even with true farm equipment. I looked it up and it’s one of the few things the French came up with of any value. All that said it’s a great tool that gives you a reason to skip the gym. A pretty good workout without the painful vibration and constant fiddling with a tiller.

The Square Foot Gardener Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

It is so very well made. Extremely strong and works on compacted dirt in a chicken yard. Takes a bit of practice when u need to stand on it. My balance is poor but getting the hang of it. I am a 5' 5" 67 year old women. If I can do it, so can others. I did have to jab a couple times with the spikes, then stood and rocked on it and up the dirt broke. Love it!!! Love the fact it is USA MADE!!!

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

Great tool works well. Carriage bolts grade 2 garbage, to short to go thru nylon on nyloc nut. Broke one with 3 fingers on 1/4" ratchet. Grabed some longer grade 5 carriage bolts from McMaster-Carr all better now, and nylon can now do its job. Overall enjoying using a good tool, does great job pulling up long root grass I have.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

This is the best broadfork out there. Definitely worth upgrading to the steel handles.. you won’t regret it. This is actually the second one I’ve bought from them.. one of the tines bent on my first one after it snagged a root buried underground.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

This was a gift for my son, now he won't have to borrow mine. We are very happy with product. The only complaint I have is with the 10 days it took to receive it. I paid the extra $15 to get to top of your shipping list and you folks did your job, now if only someone could get UPS to do theirs.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

Get the metal handles. One of the wooden handles snapped on the third turn-over. Maybe the 24" needs a stronger handle to manage the additional leverage/load? It is relatively soft ground, didn't hit a rock or root. I think I just had a faulty handle. The fork itself is solidly made though. I could have raised a stink but just fabricated my own and seems to be ok now.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

The people are most helpful to speak with. They package it well for shipment and ship quickly. The broadfork itself is very well made and works great. A very good value for the money. We highly recommend them.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

very well crafted and works as advertised! I'd say it takes a little practice to develop a technique that is sustainable over a couple hours. My initial enthusiasm left me gassed! now relying on body weight and gently rocking and results are magnificent! thank you!

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

I borrowed a friends tread light broadfork and used it. We fell in love with it. I ordered myself one to use it our small garden. It does a great job breaking up the soil deep. And dressing the top works real quickly! I’d recommend one to anyone looking for a superior built broadfork! All the others I looked at had weaknesses in one or more areas.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

I was a bit skeptical of the results to be expected. I have always tilled our garden using a rototiller. But I was very impressed. The ground was turned deeper than ever and after a second pass across the garden the soil looks and feels ready for planting. We have heavy soil which often limited the depth I could get with the rototiller. The ground may actually produce root crops this year. Looking forward to this year's garden yield.

Square Foot Gardener Treadlite Broadfork | 24" wide | 6 tines

I am 60 years old and cannot use a rotor tiller due to a shoulder problem. I purchased this to get areas in my garden that could not be tilled with a tractor. The ground was very packed down. I had no problem at all using this to loosen the ground in those areas. It. Didn’t take long to get all of the soil loosened with this tool. I highly recommend it to anyone to work the soil by hand. The workmanship on the tines is impeccable. Someone took pride in making this tiller.
