Two tiny Thumbs Up

Back to basics living has been Travis and my mantra for a long time, but now that our names have changed from Travis and Ashley to Dadda and Momma (yes, I sheepishly admit we even refer to one another by our new names) back to basics has taken on a whole new meaning. We are now trying our best to pass on our love for nature, growing and self sufficiency to our little people.

All sounds good right??... But after a packed full day of playing with an active toddler, nursing/changing/snuggling an infant, up-keeping a home, making dinner, tending the garden, walking the dog, and oh yea and having 5 minutes of alone time to take a shower it sure is tempting to order baby food from Amazon Prime. But as crazy as my days have been for the last 2 months since our second daughter was born I wouldn't trade it for the world. And actually making a dozen ice cube trays of baby food from our garden harvest only took about an hour of time... one hour for 168 servings of fresh fruits and veggies from our own backyard, yep TOTALLY worth it to me!

I used the Magic Baby Bullet that I was gifted at our baby shower and it worked great to puree steamed veggies and fruits. It works awesome and even comes with cute individual serving cups to measure out the food. Check it out on Amazon:

If you are looking to make big batches of baby food and freeze another great way I have found to do it is with a food processor and ice cube trays for portioning. So far I have made green beans, peas, squash, carrots, and a carrot/apple mix. Below is a link to an awesome Moms site who values Homegrown Living and has some great tips and recipes for making your own baby food as well as raising kids to be earth conscious. Way cool!
